I'll add my two cents' worth. I think it is not only the type of lever,
but the material it is made of. I have two harps, both tuned in Ab, both
strung similarly, and both sitting in the same room. One sounds beautiful
either totally levered or totally unlevered (the blades are the old
fashioned one-half turn sideways, but made of solid brass). The other has
the Loveland type levers that are made of a cheaper metal (not brass, or
at least not as solid brass). This harp has a lovely tone unlevered, but
a more pinched tone when all the levers are "on". Some levers just eat
the sound, that's all!
