I bought a book from Sylvia Woods called something like, PLAYING FOR PAY.
It helped a lot with setting up different types of contracts. I can't
remember the exact title and have loaned it out to another friendly
musician-engineer who needed it after he got stiffed--after having not
listened to me about getting a contract! I learned through experience get
paid in advance for weddings. I get paid "the day of" for everything else.
Local churches that arrange things through their music ministers, I
usually don't do a contract. Everyone else, yes, even the "gift" jobs I do
for friends, they appreciate the professionalism and are happier knowing
they have something real in hand. Bette
