Anti Semitism

I found Mikes post on 'Lamkin' quite interesting. It IS somewhat
reminiscent of the old anti-Semitic lie known as the 'blood libel'. In
essence, it was felt that in rejecting the Christ the Jews had given up their
humanity, and the only way they could retain the appearance of it was to
drink the blood of innocent Christians. In that sense it is related to the
legends of vampirism. Sadly, the belief persisted for a very long time; it
was part of the Nazi rant in the 'thirties, and I remember as a small child
being warned not to walk alone near the tiny local synagogue by an old person
of conservative and misguided religiosity. It is to be hoped that we are
finally getting past that sort of thing.
