Phyllis;
I find your letter most interesting and I guess that depending on the
position of ones right ear in comparison to the harp strings hearing damage
could be suffered. When I first answered the original message concerning
hearing damage, I thought only of my own case in which my ear is high enough
so that the thought of hearing damage seemed very unlikely, ( I am 6'3").
However, after reading Al's letter and now yours, I can see how other factors
such as height, effecting ear position and possible indeterminate weaknesses
of a individuals neurophysiological make up could indeed lead to hearing
damage. Ear plugs may be a good idea.

Be Well,

My harp teacher has experienced some hearing loss in her right ear, which
she attributes to the harp. She has long encouraged me to wear an earplug
in my right ear, both to protect my hearing and so that I won't hold back
on the kind of technique that produces volume.
