Accepting credit cards

I think I missed the opening post of this thread, but it's
worth mentioning that there *is* a good MC/VISA deal out
there for music people. If you join NAMM (the National
Association of Music Merchants) for $150/yr, in addition to
a whole bunch of other cool stuff you also get access to
their group MC/VISA rate. The last time I checked, this was
running around 1.59% with no additional transaction fees;
in addition, the bank (used to be Boatmen's, now is First
Tennessee) will sell you the necessary equipment at cost
(which means around $300 rather than the $2,000 a lot of
these companies charge).

The mail/phone order rate is higher, unfortunately, since
the actual credit card isn't present at the transaction.
Still, it's not exorbitant.

This program has worked out rather well for us since we
began taking credit cards here at The Harp Column, so I
thought I'd mention it. Anyone wanting more information is
welcome to send me private e-mail about it, or talk to John
Gill at Melody Music (who turned me on to it in the first
place).

Best of luck,
--Hugh
