"Background" Music

All the comments on background music leads me to wonder if I anyone else
has the problem I do:

There doesn't seem to be any such thing for me. Ever since I was
little, any music playing immediately got my attention. I'm pretty sure
that's why my parents notion of having a radio playing to help cure my
insomnia didn't work. I've also never understood how others could have
music playing while studying. I never learned a thing if I tried that.
I still can't use the CD player on my Mac in the office much,
cause I don't get any work done. For that matter, I don't play recorded
music at home if I'm reading, even light fiction. I wonder why I've been
collecting all these recordings?
(Personally, at a live concert, I tend to try and sit in the front
and *watch* the performers, especially if there's a harpist. I think I've
unnerved a few by staring so intently).

(About to *attempt,* for the first time, to give someone a lesson on harp.
Be prepared for a barrage of questions!)
