I took a class of high school students to see a very symbolic, non-dialogue
play today in a theatre with 750 other students from about 10 to 19 years
old. We had been given info. before to review theatre etiquette with our
classes. Students were reminded to remove jackets before the performance
began, and not to get up and leave for anything less than an emergency. The
whole theatre was *very* well behaved. The only breach of etiquette was
some vocal cheers and whistling along with the clapping at the end.
Perhaps we just need an MC to get up at the beginning of "adult" concerts to
remind them of the "rules," so they realize it is distracting to the
performers as well as the others in the audience?
