Sitka spruce????!!

Hi all!
Continuing my quest to build my own harp, I have noticed that alot
of makers and plans rate "sitka spruce" as a great material for the
soundboard. After a hair-raising day trying to find somewhere in town who
carries sitka spruce, all I could come up with was a place that had a
REGULAR spruce (probably white?) in the thickness required, and alot of
birch. Are there any other plywoods (white spruce, birch etc.) or a solid
piece of wood that in that thickness that might work okay? Any suggestions
would be great!
