I've been carefully following the debate regarding affording lessons and
whether to take them or not. Some have brought up the issue of the cost of
the instrument. Your car probably cost over $ 10,000.00. Did you start
driving it on the road with out any basic knowledge at all? Playing the harp
is not for the weak of pocketbook. While I do agree that there are many
accomplished self-taught players, I'm CERTAIN they would have been better off
with some guidance. A close friend of mine makes a living playing the harp
and is entirely self-taught. He gets around the harp very well but I can see
where some guidance would have made him a more versatile and comfortable
harpist. PLEASE, PLEASE get some lessons..and congratulations to those of
you who are new harp owners!
