Sheila: When I bought my Minerva from L&H, they had to delay shipping
because of a cold snap in Chicago. We had warmish weather in Texas.
They shipped the harp when Chicago warmed up and it arrived on one of
the coldest days of the year (for Texas)- 17 degrees! - in a cardboard
box with foam. I was horrified when the van driver opened up the back
of the truck and all I saw was a cardboard box. But it came through it
beautifully. I don't know how far you should loosen strings. I know it
is not much, but seeing how it will be in reallllly cold weather, surely
a half turn wouldn't hurt. My harp was virgin and couldn't hold a pitch
for more than a few seconds, but if yours is seasoned, I wouldn't lower
the strings much. I would feel much better about a wooden crate with
lots of padding. Since I have no experience such as what you are
describing, I'm sure someonw else on the list can be of much more help.
