In the summers I offer 4 introductory classes for both people who
have harps and those who would like to try harp. We have several
lever harpmakers within 100 miles of where I teach so it isn't
uncommon for someone to call up and say they'd like a couple of lessons.
Beginners seem to do real well in a group setting. Less than 50% of the
students go on to take private lessons from me. Many times all they want
is a "couple of lessons". That's fine.
I also offer Ensembles besides private lessons. These are wonderful! There
are people who play in Ensemble and don't take lessons. That's fine!
The groups vary in size during the year. They are time-limited (spring
semester is 16 meetings). I own the music (I don't allow zeroxes) and they
basically rent it from me.
