Any large-ish library should have *The New Grove Dictionary of Music and
Musicians*, a good all-purpose music encyclopedia. The O'Carolan article is
in vol. 3 (under "Carolan"), and is by Gra'inne Yeats, who I think may have
written other stuff on him (ask your friendly reference librarian how to
search Music Index etc). A biography listed in the *New Grove* article is
*Carolan: The Life, Times, and Music of an Irish Harper*, by Donal
O'Sullivan (London, 1958); also search for other stuff by O'Sullivan.

HTH!
